The expanding release and emission of heavy metals to ecosystems is a worldwide challenge that led to a progressing endeavor to develop bioremediation technologies. The Amazonian biodiversity is a powerful resource that can provide new insights into molecular mechanisms. Environmental bacterias, isolated from metal-contaminated regions, encode intrinsically enhanced genetic components. Prospecting for new genetic programs can contribute to overcoming the environmental challenge of heavy metals. This project has sequenced the genome of a bacteria highly resistant to heavy metals, the Enterobacter cloacae substrain amazonensis from a polluted wastewater river in Manaus - Amazonas.
