RURACTIVE Catalogue of place-based smart solutions in rural areas V1

This dataset has been developed under the Horizon Europe project RURACTIVE and it corresponds to RURACTIVE Solutions Catalogue V1 (Milestone 2). The RURACTIVE Solutions Catalogue is a collection of rural smart and community-led solutions, organised based on the ontology developed in the RURACTIVE Conceptual Framework (De Luca et al., 2024: 15). Solutions are understood as “place based established practices, products, processes, actions, models of governance, decision making practices, initiatives, policies and plans made up by one or a combination of various forms of innovations that drive rural communities towards a sustainability transformation” (De Luca et al., 2024: 15).A previous output of RURACTIVE underpins this work: the RURACTIVE Conceptual Framework for Innovation in rural areas (De Luca et al., 2024). This Framework proposes an ontology for understanding and characterising sustainable rural development on the basis of: Six Rural Development Drivers (RDDs): Sustainable Multimodal Mobility; Energy Transition and Climate Neutrality; Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Ecosystem Management; Nature-Based and Cultural Tourism; Culture and Cultural Innovation; Local Services, Health and Well-being; Three Cross-cutting priorities (CCPs): Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Biodiversity, Social Justice and Inclusion; and Four types of innovation: Digital and Technological; Technical; Social, Organisational and Governance; Financial and Business Models. The Catalogue features represent basic descriptive elements of the solutions (e.g. name, location, aims, story, website) and details of the RDDs in the remit of the solutions, the CCPs addressed by each solution, and the types of innovation associated with each solution. Each Catalogue entry also includes a list of enablers and barriers of innovation developed as interpreted from reviewing the literature and relevant results from previous projects.
