NTHI 86-028NP sBHI Transcriptome

Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a commensal microorganism of the normal human nasopharyngeal flora, yet also an opportunistic pathogen of the upper and lower respiratory tracts. Regulation of gene expression in response to environmental stressors is vital to bacterial survival. Numerous bacterial species use small RNAs to regulate gene expression in response to environmental stressors, however no small RNAs have been identified in NTHi species. We used RNA-seq to simultaneously asses transcript levels across the entire transcriptome and identify putative regions of small RNA expression. We identified numerous regions of putative small RNA expression as well as mRNAs containing extended 5' and 3' UTRs. Overall design: These data comprise transcriptional analysis of an rpsL mutant of 86-028NP. 86-028NPrpsL was grown in Brain Heart Infusion medium supplemented with 2µg NAD/ml and 2µg heme/ml to mid-logarithmic phase. Total RNA was then purified, followed by rRNA removal. A total of one biological replicate was generated for this analysis.
