Visualisations With Semantic Icons

The files provided contain stimuli, data, and analysis scripts for three online user studies. These studies investigate whether visualisations with semantic icons engage the reader more than a plain version. Engagement is measured with (1) visual attention: time spent looking at target visualisation/time spent looking at all visualisations; (2) cognitive effort: number of insights written under the target visualisation/ total number of insights, and (3) perceived engagement: self-reported engagement considering the aesthetic appeal, focused attention, perceived usability, and reward factor.
