This dataset contains the data and R script for the article “Urban trees for reconstructing historical trends in atmospheric mercury pollution” in Applied Geochemistry. Authors: Katrien Boonen, Rohan Shetti, Tomáš Navrátil, Tereza Nováková, Jan Rohovec, Andrea Zeibertová, and Jiří Lehejček.
The “data_leaves”, “data_xylem” and “data_rings” files contain Hg concentrations (ng/g) measured in foliage and tree rings of five tree species. “data_rings_below_LOQ” indicates which values in the “data_rings” file are below the limit of quantification. “Hg_air_Usti” contains data on Hg emissions to air from the chlor-alkali plant (kg/year) and atmospheric gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) concentrations (ng/m³). These data are obtained from the Czech Environmental Information Agency (2022), the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (2023) and Spolchemie (2023). The full references can be found in the article. The R file contains the code used for the article.
