VPRS 18819 Nursing Staff Registers

This series comprises registers that include details concerning the nurses at the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital (VA 1254). The first volume is a register that comprises information about trainee nurses and sisters (registered nurses) on staff. The first section of this volume, which relates to trainees, covers the period from 1922 to 1937. It records the examinations the trainees passed, their experience on the wards, where they had come from, and if applicable, their destination upon leaving the hospital. The second section relates to sisters on staff, and covers from 1924 to 1936. This also covers examinations and ward experience. The second volume is a Nursing Staff Register which covers the dates from August 1945 to December 1948. Each page provides information about an individual nurse. Information includes full name, age, address, position, date of entry and date of leaving. The periods the trainee nurses and sisters were at the hospital were for relatively short periods. This would suggest that the nurses were at the Hospital for the purpose of training. Further to this point, several of the nurses were from country Victoria and from interstate.
