Replication Data for: Violence in the Eye of the Beholder: Does Identity Shape Civilians’ Perceptions towards Peacekeepers?

Peacekeepers deployed in post-conflict contexts encounter fragmented local audiences motivated by different incentives, often based on identity. In this context, does identity shape civilian perception of the performance of peacekeepers, thereby shaping civilian support? Drawing on psychological research on motivated reasoning, the article argues that civilian populations’ support for peacekeepers is plausibly shaped by the identity of perpetrators and victims of violence; specifically, how effectively they respond to violence perpetrated by outgroup armed groups as opposed to ingroup armed groups. We test this theory using an original survey experiment of civilian populations from the eastern DR Congo.
