The majority of consumers in Japan never shopped on social media, as revealed in a survey conducted in February 2023 by Rakuten Insight. The most frequent shoppers on social media were respondents aged 16 to 24 years, with 28 percent making more than six purchases within the past 12 months. The share of respondents who made social commerce transactions in the past year was much lower among higher age groups.
