Soldiers in the Roman legionary forts manufactured flat roof tiles (tegulae). This was also the case at Ulpia Noviomagus (today's Nijmegen, the Netherlands), a fort in Lower Germany. The stamp on this tile reads 'EXGERINIF', short for Exercitus Germaniae Inferioris (the army of Lower Germany). Solders used these tiles on the roofs of the stone army buildings, temples, theatres, baths and villas they built along the border (limes). Ceramic, manufactured at Ulpia Noviomagus (Nijmegen-Holdeurn), found in Utrecht, the Netherlands, ca. 2nd century AD. Inventory number: 15.914 Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
