This study focuses on developing an efficient human-in-the-loop (HITL) optimization for personalizing exosuit assistance by using the sensors already implemented for exosuit control, eliminating the need for additional sensors in HITL optimization. It proposed a multivariable cost function that improved the correlation with the metabolism compared to the traditional single variable cost function. Consequently, the exosuit providing hip extension assistance reduced metabolic cost expenditure by 13.3% compared to the power-off condition, which represents a 5.2% greater reduction than that achieved with a bio-mimic assistance strategy, commonly used in exosuit research.
