Parkes observations for project P1076 semester 2020OCTS_02

We propose observations with the newly commissioned ultra-wide-band low-frequency receiver (UWL) installed on the Parkes telescope to carry out the first pilot simultaneous search of gas and pulsars in three globular clusters: 47 Tuc, NGC 362 and w Cen. These sources are chosen for their being the most promising targets for potential new detection of intracluster gas by Parkes UWL. Given the lack of gas detection in previous studies, any clear detection of any type of gas would be a discovery. The same data would also be processed for pulsar search, with a reasonable chance of discovery according to our calculation based on stellar encounter rate. The proposed program will be the first simultaneous search of gas and pulsars toward globular clusters and could potentially shed significant lights into their star formation history.
