This Mineral Exploration report summarises exploration work carried out by South32 Cannington Pty Ltd on the Answer Downs South 2 tenement – EPM 27165 (“the EPM”) during the annual period to 9th December 2019.
The principal exploration target in the tenement area is Proterozoic Broken Hill-type Ag – Pb – Zn (BHt) mineralisation (e.g. Cannington).
A large amount of previous exploration has been carried out by BHP Billiton Minerals Pty Ltd for BHt mineralisation. Extensive airborne and ground magnetic and gravity surveys were carried out which were followed up with 10 drill holes. This work identified the SC77 prospect which contains lithologies potentially equivalent to the Cannington mineralized package. These comprise garnet-altered lithologies with low-level, narrow elevated Mn, P, Pb, and Zn along with anomalous Pb in amphibolite.
Work completed on EPM 26336 during the annual reporting period by South32 involved desktop reviews of previous exploration, compilation of regional geophysical datasets and geological interpretation.
South32 are committed to continuing exploration for economic base metal mineralisation on EPM 27165 in 2021. Further target evaluation is required with identified targets planned to be tested by a combination of electrical geophysics (MIMDAS, SQUID EM) and deep drilling.
