Suspicious area cadastre and contaminated site atlas Status: 1 January 2011

The annual updated report provides information on the collection and processing status of old deposits and old sites in Austria, which were reported to the Federal Environment Agency on 1 January 2011. In accordance with the Remediation of Contaminated Sites Act, the areas covered must be treated. Therefore, the suspected areas are examined and the environmental hazard that emanates or can emanate from old deposits and old sites is assessed. Currently, around 90% of all old sites in Austria are already recorded, so the survey can be largely completed in 2011. The number of suspected sites has increased by 114 compared to the previous year. In 2010, a new contaminated site was identified, bringing the total to 256; the number of contaminated sites rehabilitated or secured increased by five to a total of 108.
