Evolutionary and ecological dynamics of E. coli populations in long cycles of nutrient-replenishment

Populations of WT and Mismatch Repair-deficient Escherichia coli were experimental evolved over 900 days. These populations belonged to 1 of 3 groups which varied by transfer period: 1-day, 10-days, or 100-days. Time-series whole population genomic sequencing was conducted every 100-days to track the fate of new and persisting mutations. This study sheds light on how microbes evolve when faced with extreme conditions.
