It is hypothesized that as salinity increases from 2.5 to 15.0 g NaCl/L, treatment performance will initially decline due to the adverse effects on the microbial communities. Furthermore, membrane fouling may intensify due to microbial excretion. Nevertheless, it is expected that the microbial community will adapt to the salinity changes, stabilizing treatment performance and reducing membrane fouling.
