The article presents a descriptive correlational study, using the methodological strategy of a social research workshop. The results show a high number of misleading, manipulated and fabricated news, arrived by WhatsApp, Twitter or Facebook. Its theme is varied but those related to Covid-19 stand out. Regarding the possible benefits, the university students aim to generate panic, political / business benefit, morbidity or obtain visits to the webs. Most recognize that due to their implausibility they would not have shared them and turn to other more reputable media, data verification platforms, official bodies or the protagonists themselves to contrast the content.
