The present invention provides a process for the production of hydrogen， comprising the following steps: (i) recovering methanol from black liquor， and (ii) subjecting the methanol to non-catalytic reforming to produce hydrogen， wherein the non-catalytic reforming is performed at a temperature in the range of 700-1300°C.
