Effect of intravaginal gentian violet for acute vaginal candidiasis treated with a single dose oral fluconazole: A randomized controlled trial

The study aims to evaluate the additive effect of intra-vaginal gentian violet (GV) on a single dose oral 200mg fluconazole for acute vaginal candidiasis (VC). Women aged ≥18 years who had VC were randomly allocated to either group 1 received a single dose of oral fluconazole 200 mg (FLU, N=90); and group 2 received the fluconazole with intravaginal GV (FLU+GV, N=93). Outcome measures were 2-week clinical cure rate, conversion of positive fungal culture, time-to-cure, side effects, women’s satisfaction, and recurrence within 2 months.
