Studies estimate a greater demand for palliative care as well as an increase in the demand for non-pharmacological interventions. Reiki is a complementary therapy that meets patients' objectives in palliative care by promoting well‑being and quality of life. A descriptive cross-sectional pilot study employing a mixed‑methods design approach was conducted. Data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire. Twenty-one palliative-care nurses from a hospital center in northern Portugal participated in this study. Overall, respondents expressed positive views, and although they knew little about Reiki, they seemed open to using it if it were available in their institution and supported by stronger evidence of benefits for patients in palliative care. In view of the existing knowledge gap, further studies that employ Reiki therapy as an intervention for patients in palliative care are needed, so that the benefits, barriers, and potential drawbacks of integrating this modality into patient care can be determined.
