Creelist: GBIF occurrence records in use (CC0 and CC BY 4.0), September 2026

Occurrence records used by the Creelist fishing app (iOS/Android) to judge where 100 fish species may be present. Records were obtained from GBIF between 2026-09-06 and 2026-09-18: 56 species through the GBIF occurrence Download API (one download per species) and 44 species through the GBIF occurrence search API. Filtering applied: only records licensed CC0 1.0 or CC BY 4.0 (CC BY-NC and unlicensed records excluded); only occurrenceStatus PRESENT; only records with coordinates. For 71 of the 100 species, records were then spatially thinned to at most 2 per 0.1-degree cell, keeping the lowest-uncertainty record and a stocked record where present. The result is 941,695 records from 1,900 datasets published by 380 organisations. Record counts per source dataset are those actually retained and used. Each gbifID resolves at https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/<gbifID>. No coordinates or other record content are included.
