A total of 24 mice were randomly assigned to four groups: High fat diet (HFD), High fat diet with periodontitis (HPD), High fat diet with periodontal treatment(HLR), and High fat diet with periodontal treatment and metformin (HLM). Mice were fed a high-fat diet (fat 60%, carbohydrate 20%, protein 20%, D12492; catalog #D12492). In the 10th week, periodontitis was induced in HPD, HLR, and HPD mice, while HFD mice were sham-ligatured. If the ligatures fell off, the tooth would be re-ligated.In the 12th week, the ligatures in the HLR and HLM groups were removed for periodontal non-surgical treatment. Meanwhile, HLM mice were administered metformin via oral gavage. In the 16th week, all mice were euthanized, and cecal content was collected using aseptic techniques at the end of the 16th week.
