Planning and Preparing for Later Life, 2024

<p>The <span style="font-style: italic;">Planning and Preparing for Later Life Survey (PPLL)</span> was commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It provides information on people’s attitudes and behaviours around planning for retirement such as evidence on how far individuals are able to make well informed choices about how and when to retire and whether they will be in a position to enjoy financial security when they do. </p><p>PPLL is a nationally representative survey of 40-75 year olds in Great Britain. The survey includes a number of core questions in each wave but focusses on different specific objectives.</p>
<p><span style="font-style: italic;">Planning and Preparing for Later Life, 2024</span> had four main objectives:</p>

<li>To understand attitudes and behaviours around pension saving and planning for later life</li><li>To provide evidence to support policy development around income adequacy in retirement</li><li>To gather evidence on attitudes and knowledge around the State Pension system</li><li>To gather evidence on the value consumers place on DWP products, policies and services </li></ul>
<p><!--StartFragment--><span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">The 2024 survey is the second in the series, following on from the first wave of PPLL conducted in 2020-2021 (available from the UK Data Service under SN 9516)</span><!--EndFragment--></p><p>Data were collected from 4,036 adults aged 40 to 75 via a 45 minute online self-completion survey (with the option to complete via the telephone on request) between 30th October and 7th December 2024. The sample for the survey was drawn from respondents to the<span style="font-style: italic;"> Family Resources Survey, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024</span> (available from the UK Data Service under SN 9252 and 9367 respectively) aged 40 to 75 who had agreed to be contacted for further research.</p>
<p>The data have been weighted to ensure that findings can be generalised to the population of 40 to 75 year olds in Great Britain. The final data have been calibrated against ONS mid-year population estimates and <span style="font-style: italic;">Labour Force Survey </span>estimates to ensure that they closely resembled the target population in terms of sex, age and region.</p>
