The human skin microbiome remains unchanged after 24-hours of sunscreen application

Two different sunscreen formulations and a vehicle control were applied to individual regions of the forearms of 20 healthy human participants at volumes of 2mg/cm-2. Skin swabs were taken from each of these regions, in addition to a no sunscreen control region, before sunscreen application and at 1, 6 and 24 hours after sunscreen application. Sequencing data was collected by targeting the 16S rRNA gene using Illumina Next Generation Sequencing.
