DNA sequencing of a Staphylococcus aureus strain isolated from an intramammary infection in a dairy cow. This strain caused a chronic infection that was resistant to antibiotic treatment. Not all S. aureus strains cause chronic infections or are resistant to treatment. Understanding the genetic difference between strains that can cause chronic or antibiotic resistant disease is an important research objective.
