Ecology 2050 WK 4 Pan Trap Dataset

Samples of animal abundances and variety was collected into a dataset from the grasslands and woodlot area at York University Keele Campus on Friday, October 3, 2014. The weather was moderately windy and rainy. 10 pan traps (bowls) filled with soapy water were randomly placed in the grassland. Another 10 pan traps filled with soapy water were randomly placed in the woodlot. Jenna Teixeira and Arlene Tran returned after 50 minutes and recorded the number of insects captured in each bowl, the number of different recognizable taxonomic units, as well as the general name of each recognizable taxonomic unit. The colour of each pan trap was also recorded to infer if certain insects were attracted to certain colours. Due to weather conditions, few insects were captured and recorded.
