After arriving at the Danby Woodlot, located on York University campus, I placed 9 bowls in the pattern of yellow, blue white, along a transect line, with a seperation of 1 meter between each bowl, at both areas of the Danby location: The grasslands and the woodlot. In the case of the grasslands, I placed the bowls along the border of the grassland-woodlot area. The grasses there was shorter on one side, and longer on the other side of the bowls. These bowls were placed at 3:08 PM. As for the woodllot, the bowls were placed near the left side of the woodlot area, along a transect line position chosen for it's relative abundance of vegetation. The same pattern of distribution was used:yellow, blue white, 1 meter apart. These bowls were placed at 3:13 PM. After 92 minutes, I returned to each location (4:40 PM- Grassland, 4:45 PM-Woodlot) and counted the insects that had been trapped within the bowls. colour of bowl, abundance of insects as well as number of RTU's and location was noted for each bowl. A seive and tweezers assisted in the counting of the insects. After this was completed, the bowls were emptied and removed from the Danby Woodlot. The day had winds of a 2 on the Beaufort scale, and the skies were cloudy. The temperature was relatively cool.
