Suspended sediment concentration profile in flow through a Typha latifolia canopy

This study used laboratory experiments and random displacement model (RDM) to investigate the distributions of suspended sediment concentration (SSC) within a Typha latifolia canopy. The SSC profile in the <i>Typha</i> canopy differed significantly from the profile in open channel. a model for vertical diffusivity was validated with tracer data within cylinder array and then modified to reflect the specific morphology of the <i>Typha</i> canopy. RDM simulations using the modified diffusivity model produced good agreement with the measured suspended sediment concentration. This work could provide insight into guiding marsh restoration and land-building.
