资源简介:
Birmingham Archaeology was commissioned by Tesco Stores Ltd, to undertake a programme of archaeological evaluation, in November 2010, of land at West Bromwich town centre, Sandwell. The evaluation was requested by Sandwell MBC as a condition of planning permission (Planning Application reference DC/09/50896) in advance of the construction of a large retail store, food and drink uses, leisure and petrol filling station, together with the realignment of The Ringway access and other highway works, servicing, car parking, public realm, landscaping and other related works. Ten trial-trenches were excavated across the site revealing evidence of an early 19th-century chapel, remains of brick structures associated with 19th- century terraced housing, possible remains of another 19th-century structure and two early 20th-century industrial buildings. Recommendations for limited further archaeological mitigation were made relating to a possible burial ground associated with the early 19th-century chapel.
