WATER TEMPERATURE and other data from MULTIPLE SHIPS from 1983-01-01 to 1992-12-31 (NCEI Accession 9400224)

This accession contains data collected as part of Shipboard Environmental data Acquisition System (SEAS) II program. The cruises were conducted using multiple ships. The bathythermograph (XBT) data was collected between January 1, 1983 and December 31, 1992. The data was sent from the cruise ships to the Atlantic Oceanographic Meterological Laboratory (AOML), Miami FL via telecommunication. The XBT data was received by Phil Hadsell of NODC via File Transfer Protocol from Ryan Smith of NOAA/AOML.

In many cases the data are poorly documented and unprocessable. Two subdirectories have been created 1) AOMLSUB contains the original compressed and 'tar'ed submission; and 2) NODC GROUP contains Phil Hadsell's attempt to group the data into meaningful files from the one file per xbt structure in the uncompressed submission. The original readme.txt has been put into both sub- directories to aid in the file name decoding.
