1 image. Arrival, March 7 1954. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Ladd; Handout.; Supplementary material reads: "Rogers & Cowan, public relations. 226 North Canon Drive, Beverly Hills, California, Crestview 5-4581. March 7, 1954. For immediate release, please. Film star Alan Ladd returned to Hollywood today (7) aboard Santa Fe's Super Chief following more than a year abroad, during which time he starred in four feature motion pictures. Accompanying the star, who returned here in time to accept the 'Most Popular Actor of the Year' award from Photoplay Magazine tomorrow night (March 8) at the Beverly Hills Hotel, was his wife, Sue, and their two younger children, David and Alana. 'Making films abroad last year,' Ladd said ' afforded my children the opportunity to get a first-hand view of the rest of the world and thereby achieve a better understanding, through comparison, that the American home -- land and our way of life are the most precious possessions with which a human being can be gifted.' During his European picture-making Ladd starred in 'The Paratrooper,' 'Hell Below Zero' and 'The Black Knight' for Warwick Films in England and France. Last summer he also did 'Saskatchewan' in Canada for Universal International Pictures. Following the Photoplay Awards ceremonies tomorrow night, in which he shares top honors with Marilyn Monroe, who was voted 'Most Popular Actress of the Year,' Ladd will confer with his representatives regarding 12 top films in which he has been offered starring roles. The actor is being cited by the readers of Photoplay magazine as a result of his performance in the film 'Shane.' Last month Ladd was one of the winners of the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents poll which selected the most popular film stars in the world today".
