The dataset includes following four types of dataset obtained by UAV-LiDAR survey and field work. 1. Digital Terrain Models (DTMs, 5 cm spatial resolution) 2. Canopy Height Models (CHMs, 5 cm spatial resolution) 3. Ortho-mosaic photos (2.2-2.6 cm spatial resolution) 4. Crown polygons of each trees (4328 crowns with 151 species, stem girth at breast height from the latest Moni1000 published data, and canopy height from the dataset 2). Data were collected from 22 long-term monitoring plots (each approximenly one hector) across Japan, which are registered in the Monitoring Sites 1000 Projects under Japanese Mnistry of Environment. These plots span major climate zones (ranging from subtropical to subarctic) and forest types (evergreen conifer, broadleaf and conifer mixed deciduous broadleaf, and evergreen broadleaf forests). UAV surveys and ground-truthing filedwork for crown segments were conducted simultaneously from May 2022 to October 2023. A data article regarding this dataset is avilable from the following link. (http://doi.org/10.1111/1440-1703.12555) Update note on June 27th, 2025 The official tree census dataset for the Moni1000 project was updated on September 30th,2024. In conjunction with the update, we have also updated the tree crown dataset using the tree census dataset included in TreeDataPackage2022ver2.zip. The updated Crown_ver2 contains data for 4304 tree crowns of 149 species. During the update process, the previous tree crown dataset was updated and modified as follows. 1. Removal of duplicate tree crowns Duplicates were found in some tree crowns and were removed. As a result, the number of tree crowns has been reduced from 4328 to 4304. 2. Changes in attribute values 1. plot The plot name of Ogawa was incorrect and has been corrected. 2. stem_ID, indv_ID Basically, the values listed in Table S3 of the data paper were used. However, some sites did not update the values listed in Table S3 in the Moni1000 official data. We used another appropriate value in that case. 3. spc_latin, spc_japan Species names for some individuals were changed in the Moni1000 official data. The previous crown dataset includes synonyms for the scientific species names. Therefore, we modified them to the accepted scientific names using YList as a reference. As a result, the number of species included in the dataset is reduced from 151 to 149. 4. gbh_latest, gbh_date Updated to the latest available value recorded in the census data. 5. ca_m2 Corrected unusual values for some crowns. 6. isDead Changed attribute values for individuals recorded as dead in the latest tree census data. 7. confidence The species names of some individuals were confirmed, and the confidence attribute has been updated. 3. Addition of attribute values 1. schm_min, schm_mean, schm_media, schm_sd, schm_max Since outliers due to local noise were observed in our CHM product, a median filter of 5-pixel squares was applied to remove the noise. Various statistical attributes were calculated from the smoothed CHMs, and the values were stored within each crown polygon. The median is denoted by schm_meida due to the word-counting limitation of row name in Shapefile. 2. gbh_isVine TRUE if the gbh of the tree is measured including vines.
