Relative sea level is influenced by both rising sea level and vertical land movement, such as uplift or subsidence caused by natural geologic processes or human activities. These trends help show how sea level change may affect coastal lands and infrastructure.</p><p><strong>Note: This Indicator supported progress tracking toward the Monitoring and Assessment Outcome in the original Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement, adopted in 2014. The Watershed Agreement and Adapting to Changing Environmental Conditions Outcome were revised in 2025.</strong></p>
