The Oil Spill Contingency and Response (OSCAR) example source data for the Subsurface Oil Simulation (SoSIM) model of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, 2010-05-21 to 2010-06-17

This dataset includes an example of output from the Oil Spill and Contingency Response (OSCAR) model which has been used to provide input information for the Subsurface Oil Simulation model for tracking the spread of oil spills. This dataset covers 28 days in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon spill, 2010-05-21 to 2010-06-17. Developed by SINTEF (www.sintef.no), OSCAR models weathering processes on oil. The underlying circulation field is provided by the HYCOM Gulf of Mexico 1/25° degree reanalysis (GOMu0.04). The data presented here include the three-dimensional distribution of oil concentration and total oil in twenty depth layers between 900 and 1300 m; the first layer is 2 m thick and the remainder 20.95 m thick. Temporal resolution is daily for 28 days spanning 2010-05-21 to 2010-06-17. Related dataset R6.x812.000:0002 (DOI: 10.7266/n7-qsr6-gr54) simulates the spreading of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill using these OSCAR concentration fields.
