Integrated analysis of Sex-Biased mRNAs and miRNAs expression profiles in the gonad of the discus fish (Symphysodon aequifasciatus)

In summary, we firstly performed the mRNA and miRNA High-throughput sequencing in the gonads of the discus fish using Illumina Hiseq 4000, and obtained a large of genes and miRNAs involved in sex differentiation and determination. Which indicated that they might play key roles in regulating sex fate and development of the discus fish. The results could contribute to further understand the underlying molecular mechanisms of sex determination and differentiation in the discus fish.
