Key modules were developed in the ecosystem model ORCHIDEE to more accurately simulate the impacts of land use changes on ecosystem carbon source-sink dynamics over the Tibetan Plateau. First, an age cohort module was developed and successfully applied to characterize the age structure of forests and age cohorts of other land use types. The number of original plant functional types (PFTs) was expanded, and new customized plant functional types were generated via the model configuration file. For the customized PFTs, forests are divided into 6 age cohorts while other vegetation types are divided into 2 age cohorts, ranging from young to old age. Biomass thresholds were set for each age cohort based on the growth equations of different vegetation types, to characterize the age cohort that each vegetation type is in at any given time. This development enables the model to effectively characterize the age cohorts of each vegetation type at the sub-pixel scale. Second, a transition module between different age cohorts and land use types, as well as plantation management and timber harvesting modules, were developed to allow the model to more accurately simulate the impacts of land use changes on the carbon cycle. Finally, the grassland management and grazing modules from the ORCHIDEE_GM version were integrated, further enriching the functionality of the ecosystem model. The dataset covers key elements including the age cohort module, transition module, plantation management, timber harvesting, and grassland management. The development of these modules is of great significance, providing critical technical support for simulating the ecosystem carbon cycle under land use changes over the Tibetan Plateau, and facilitating in-depth understanding of the impacts of human activities on carbon source-sink dynamics. The dataset is derived from the development process of the ORCHIDEE model, with processing methods including functional expansion and customization of the model, and setting key parameters such as biomass thresholds for different vegetation types and age cohorts. The dataset is of high quality, as it is based on the expansion and improvement of the ORCHIDEE model, and has undergone systematic module design and testing. However, the accuracy and reliability of the model still need continuous validation and improvement in practical applications. The development of these modules provides a critical tool for in-depth understanding of the impacts of land use changes on ecosystem carbon source-sink dynamics over the Tibetan Plateau. In the future, it can be applied to the assessment of climate change impacts, the formulation of eco-environmental management policies, and research on carbon sink optimization management, providing important support for achieving sustainable development and ecological conservation.
