Country-level dataset for respiratory care readiness and asthma/COPD mortality across countries

This dataset contains country-level variables used for an ecological cross-sectional analysis of technical respiratory care readiness and asthma/COPD mortality burden. The dataset includes indicators of respiratory care readiness derived from WHO NCD Data Portal and WHO Global Health Observatory country capacity datasets, including availability of bronchodilator inhalers, steroid inhalers, budesonide-formoterol inhalers, peak-flow measurement and spirometry. It also includes asthma and COPD mortality and burden estimates from WHO Global Health Estimates 2021, tobacco-use indicators, clean-fuel access indicators and World Bank income-group classifications. The dataset was used to construct a technical respiratory care readiness index, examine associations with age-standardised asthma and COPD mortality, and classify countries into burden–readiness typology groups. All source data are publicly available from the World Health Organization and the World Bank. The files are provided to support transparency and reproducibility of the associated manuscript.
