The study on social cohesion in Baden-Württemberg was conducted by infratest dimap on behalf of the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration Baden-Württemberg. During the survey period from 09.01.2019 to 04.02.2019, German-speaking persons aged 16 and older in private households with a landline in Baden-Württemberg were surveyed in telephone interviews (CATI), focusing on the situation in their own neighborhood. Respondents were selected through a multi-stage random sampling from an ADM selection frame. The study is part of the Radar project, which has been investigating various aspects of social cohesion nationally and internationally since 2013.<br>Satisfaction with life; feeling of connectedness with: Europe, Germany, Baden-Württemberg, the region, the place of residence and with the neighborhood; size of the circle of friends and acquaintances; frequency of meetings with friends/acquaintances; friends on whose help one could count in case of difficulties; friends or acquaintances who would lend 1. 000 euros; general trust in people; strength of trust at first meeting; strength of trust in political parties, courts, police, state government, state parliament, federal government and city or district or municipal administration (institutional trust); agreement with various statements (Social differences in our country are fair, people in Germany are paid according to their performance, economic gains are distributed fairly in Germany today, the differences in rank between people are acceptable, most people don´t care about their fellow human beings at all, most people have good intentions, nowadays you can´t rely on anyone); opinion on the discrimination of women in society; opinion on political work against discrimination of women; social participation: Donations in the last 12 months; volunteering: frequency of volunteering; appreciation experienced for volunteering; sufficient support from politics and administration for volunteering; type of support desired; development of support for volunteering from politics and administration in the last five years; type of political participation in the last twelve months (e. g., collecting signatures for political causes, participation in a citizens´ initiative, etc.); membership in an association or nonprofit organization; threat vs. enrichment of life in Germany by increasing diversity; acceptance of different groups of people in the neighborhood (people with a very different lifestyle, people with a different religion, foreigners/migrants, homosexuals, families with children, people with disabilities); sense of safety in the neighborhood; neighborhood in the immediate vicinity where one would not want to go alone at night; recognition of social rules: various problems in the neighborhood (e.g., dog excrement on the street, disturbance of the peace, etc.); interest in politics; interest in local politics; probability of participation in the next local elections; political self-ranking left-right; party preferences (ranking); optimism about the future; satisfaction with democracy; democracy is the best form of government; social cohesion in Germany is at risk; biggest problem for social cohesion in Germany; biggest problems for living together in the region (first and second naming); big problems with refugees in the neighborhood; neighborhood: Residential area suitable for children, sufficient support offers in the residential area for families with children, change in offers for families with children in the residential area in the last five years; residential area suitable for elderly people; sufficient support offers for elderly people in the residential area; change in offers for elderly people in the residential area in the last five years; evaluation of family doctor care in the residential area evaluation of specialist doctor care in the residential area; accessibility of a hospital within 30 minutes; change in medical care in the residential area in the last five years; assessment of the increasing digitalization of health care; assessment of the care provided to people in need of care in the residential area; people in need of care in own household, in the family or among friends, others e.g. in neighborhood, none; assessment of quality of care; change in quality of care in neighborhood in last five years; harassment of women in neighborhood; violence against women in neighborhood; harassment of women among acquaintances; sufficient support services for women who have experienced violence. Demography: sex; age; household size; children; number of children; year of moving into current residence; stable partnership; current occupational situation; highest school degree; completed vocational training or university studies; membership in a religious community; denomination or religious community; self-assessment of health status; chronic illness; received ongoing financial assistance for subsistence in the last twelve months; assessment of personal economic situation; globalization as an opportunity or as a threat; amount of monthly net household income; net household income categorized; born in Germany; country of birth of respondent; German citizenship; citizenship of respondent; father and mother born in Germany (migration background). Additionally coded were: respondent ID; county code number; political municipality class; administrative district; weighting factor.
