Status of ISC Member Unions' Efforts on Data Standards (Version 2.0)

In 2017, the Committee on Data (CODATA) of the International Science Council (ISC) set up a task group 'Coordinating Data Standards amongst Scientific Unions' to investigate the status of data and metadata standards developed and/or endorsed by the 41 ISC member unions and associations (under ""Caregory 1"" list at https://council.science/members/online-directory/). An initial result was complete as a table draft in the Spring of 2018, but it was only shared within a small group. In 2022 summer, the task group members took another round of investigation and updated the records in the table, and made the result public. The table was published as an appendix (http://go.nature.com/3e1andf) to a Nature Correspondence essay (https://doi.org/10.1038/d41586-022-03233-2). The original table is also shared at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KxU6C09yUx-GiVww1wcDPP-pwpQar2BssPH-YZXZzIw/edit?gid=611217213#gid=611217213. In the summer of 2026, we conducted another round of search amongst the scientific unions' websites and generated the Version 2.0 of the table, as presented at here. The resources listed in the column Union Data Standard and Vocabulary Outputs, Including Catalogs, and Recommendations are just a partial list as digested from the information on the union or sub-division website. Through the coordination of CODATA, we will continuously update the records in that column. Many weblinks from the version 1.0 are now broken. We keep them here and recommend interested user to apply tools such as Web Archive (https://web.archive.org) to find some historical information. In this table we did not include the contact person of the union and the sub-division for data and information as those records are dynamic along with the frequent changes of personnel within each union. Along the years, a few scientific unions have dropped out of the ""Caregory 1"" member list of ISC or are represented by other broader unions at ISC.
