XMM-NEWTON OBSERVATIONS OF THE SECOND-BRIGHTEST QUASAR comma PHL 1811

Followup spectroscopy of VLA FIRST survey quasar candidates discovered a verybright quasar in the South Galactic Cap. Strangely, this quasar was not detectedin the ROSAT All Sky Survey. Followup coordinated HST and Chandra observationsshowed that it is intrinsically very Xray weak, pointing to unusual and extremeconditions in the Xray emitting corona. We propose an XMMNewton observation ofthis unusual quasar to study the spectrum of an intrinsically Xray weak object,to potentially confirm rapid Xray variability tentatively identified in theChandra observation in this very luminous quasar, and to monitor its Xraystate. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
