Modeling documents for manuscipt Wang et al. “Strontium isoscape of sub-Saharan Africa allows tracing origins of victims of the transatlantic slave trade”

This repository contains code and raster files to reproduce the results described in the manuscript Wang et al. "Strontium isoscape of sub-Saharan Africa allows tracing origins of victims of the transatlantic slave trade" (submitted to Nature Communications).This zip file includes the following documents:1) subfolder data: one Excel datasheet for sampling data (Wang_et_al_Dataset_S1), one Excel datasheet (seeds_4model), the R script for modeling (pred_df_split), and the other Excel datasheet (published_enslaved_Africans_isotope_data) for conducting AssignR model.2) subfolder R scripts: four related scripts for modeling the RF isoscapes (RF modeling_isoscape, mop_tol, caret_model_repeatedcv, and infillNN) and one for modeling the possible origins of enslaved Africans from two archaeological sites (AssignR_origins_of_enslaved_Africans).3) subfolder results: two tiff files with resulting Sr isoscape (panaf_model_repeatedCV) and its prediction standard error map (panaf_model_repeatedCV_se).4) subfolder Supplementary data files: four Supplementaery Data files and one source data file for the manuscript.
