Supporting data for “Climate Response to Tambora-size Volcanic Eruption and the Impact of Warming Climate”

We first performed a 60-year run, with conditions fixed at the 1850 values. Additional 10 years were run using the 10 different initial conditions for both Tam-1850 and control (Ctrl-1850) experiments, with and without the volcanic forcing from 1815 to 1820 reconstructed by Gao et al. (2008) for six years, respectively. For the Tam-RCP8.5 scenario, we first set up the anthropogenic warming condition by running the model with the IPCC RCP8.5 scenario for the period between 2005 and 2080 as the baseline. Then, 10 January 1st realizations from 2070 to 2079 of the baseline were selected as the initial conditions, respectively, in which the same volcanic forcing as Tam-1850 is included. Ten more new cases were run without volcanic forcing as the control (Ctrl-RCP8.5) experiments based on 2070-2079 baseline results. The CESM model results used for climate response analysis have been preliminarily processed.
