The goal of this study was to establish the use of Illumina 16S rRNA V4 sequencing for accurately detecting two fish pathogens, Flavobacterium columnare and Flavobacterium psychrophilum. Using NGS methods to detect pathogens can provide similar accuracy to other pathogen detection methods (depending on the pathogen) while also providing a microbiome profile simultaneously. Lake water samples were inoculated with one or both of these pathogens and then processed and sequenced to validate this approach.
本研究旨在确立使用Illumina 16S rRNA V4测序技术在精确检测两种鱼类病原体——柱状黄杆菌(Flavobacterium columnare)和嗜冷黄杆菌(Flavobacterium psychrophilum)方面的应用。运用下一代测序技术(NGS)检测病原体能够在保持与其他病原体检测方法(取决于病原体种类)相似准确度的同时,同步提供微生物组特征。通过对湖水中接种上述一种或两种病原体的样本进行处理和测序,以验证该方法的可行性。
