Crisis Monitor (Week 21/2024)

The Crisis Monitor has been conducted regularly by the opinion research institute forsa on behalf of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government since calendar week 1/2023. The Crisis Monitor is the continuation of the representative population surveys conducted regularly by forsa from calendar week 13/2022 to 50/2022 on the topic of Germany and the war in Ukraine. The individual question areas were adjusted depending on the survey period. In the survey period from 23.05.2024 to 27.05.2024, the German-speaking resident population aged 14 and over was surveyed in telephone interviews (CATI). Respondents were selected using a multi-stage random sample.<br>Thoughts about emigration from Germany and reasons for wanting to emigrate; developments in Germany that personally cause the most concern; personal sense of security in Germany; opinion on the level of controversy on important political issues (there is too much, too little or just the right amount of controversy); aggressiveness of public political debates compared to ten years ago; reason for an increase in aggressiveness; aggressiveness of political debates among friends compared to ten years ago; awareness of physical attacks on politicians in recent weeks; attitude towards selected statements about physical attacks on politicians (worry the respondent, is their own fault, s also an attack on democracy, political debate in Germany has become too aggressive, mayors and local politicians must be better protected from attacks); country of birth of the respondent and their parents is Germany.

Demography: sex; age (grouped); employment; education; party preference in the next federal election; voting behavior in the last federal election; income situation low, medium, high (net equivalent income).

Additionally coded were: West/East region; federal state; weighting factor.
