Guo et al. report that the ERAD-associated E3 ligase NbHRD1 is an important antiviral component directly targeting triple gene block (TGB) movement proteins of plant viruses. NbHRD1 triggers the ubiquitination and 26S proteasome-mediated degradation of TGB proteins, thereby inhibiting virus infection.
