EMR-based Learning Prescriptions

Learning prescriptions are a useful educational approach, which are made
more effective when they are patient specific, but this leads to concerns about compromising patient confidentiality. In today’s environment of increasing data mining in all areas of society, this concern is increasingly difficult to address. By using the intrinsic capabilities of our electronic medical record (EMR) system, we have been able to implement a simple yet functional learning prescription system that avoids many of these concerns. While based on a particular EMR system, all of the needed functions are provided by other full service EMRs and this approach is regarded as generalizable to other institutions
