Updated December, 2025 NESTING AREA: An area which includes good nesting sites and contains one or more active or inactive nest locations. The boundaries are drawn based on professional judgment to include most known nesting habitat in the vicinity. Usually these areas are mapped as polygons around cliffs and include a 1/2 mile buffer surrounding the cliffs. POTENTIAL NESTING: An area which appears to include the necessary components for peregrine falcon nesting, but in which no known active or inactive nest sites are present. This information was derived from Colorado Parks and Wildlife field personnel. Data was captured by digitizing through a SmartBoard Interactive Whiteboard using topographic maps and NAIP imagery at various scales (Cowardin, M., M. Flenner. March 2003. Maximizing Mapping Resources. GeoWorld 16(3):32-35). These data are updated on a four year rotation with one of the four Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regions updated each year. These data are not updated on a statewide level annually.
