The epitope motif is repeated is present about 20 times in the lubricin protein sequence. The epitope-specific mAb stained lubricin in synovial tissue sections from patients with osteoarthritis. The mAb did not stain synovial tissue sections from patients with camptodactyly-arthropathy-coxa vara-pericarditis syndrome (CACP), who genetically lack lubricin.
