VPRS 15762 Land Files Estrays, Closer and Soldier Settlement

This series consists of land files for Closer and Discharged Soldier Settlement which had become separated from the bulk of the files and thus not included in the main series of files. A list of these series and the means of access to them may be found in PROV Guide No. 55.Land files were created as a record of all dealings and correspondence relating to a specific parcel of land once it had been leased or licensed for occupation. Files might include details of the initial survey of the land, applications for a lease or license to occupy the land, correspondence with the Department of Crown Lands and Survey or the Closer Settlement Board and Commission with respect to the occupation, any details of the transfer of the land to another lessee or licensed occupant and any details of a Crown grant.The files in the P2 consignment were removed from VPRS 747 Advances Files - Eastern Division during the reprocessing of that series in 2006. Most of these files came from the former Units 98 to 101 of VPRS 747. Most of them relate to estates at Shepparton, Kilmany Park and Whitfield.
