Earth System Science Workbench: AVHRR Level 1b Data

ICESS operates a SeaSpace TeraScan ground station that automatically receives and processes HRPT telemetry from the AVHRR sensors on board the NOAA polar-orbiting satellites. We've programmed the TeraScan system to acquire any AVHRR imagery transmitted by the NOAA-12 and NOAA-14 satellites, whenever they're at least 20 degrees above the horizon at UCSB. The imagery is stored as a level 1B (radiometrically calibrated) TDF (TeraScan Data Format). The visible and Near IR are albedos, while the IR channels are brightness temperatures.
