To date, studies about life history and habitat of this bird are rarely reported and no study has used mitochondrial and microsatellite approaches which we applied in this study to elaborate its population genetics and structure. Here, we aim to address the following questions: (1) how does genetic diversity and gene flow occur in Ruddy - breasted Crake populations; (2) Are migratory and resident populations genetically distinct; (3) Is there any evidence for population expansion and bottlenecks, which reflect the increases or declines in population size?
